This tree, grafted from an atomic bombed Prunus × yedoensis cherry tree located on the grounds of Hiroshima City Hall, is known as an atomic bombed cherry tree.

From November 12 to 14, 2010, the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates was held in Hiroshima. To mark the occasion, this atomic bombed cherry tree was planted by Nobel Peace Prize laureates Mairead Corrigan Maguire, Shirin Ebadi, and Jodie Williams, along with the Mayor of Hiroshima. It was also planted as part of the Hiroshima Peace Park Atomic Bombed Sakura Initiative for the 120th Anniversary of the Establishment of Hiroshima Municipal Administration Commemorative Project.
