This variety of rose was cultivated by Belgian horticulturalist Hippolyte Delforge for Otto Frank, father of the young Anne Frank whose life was cut short at the age of 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp after she was captured by the Nazis during WWII.

In 1971, the roses were received by Michiko Otsuki of the Holy Ecclesia of Jesus (Setagaya City, Tokyo). They were later propagated at the Kyoto Holy Ecclesia of Jesus Sagano Church.

In 1982, Michiko Otsuki's uncle, Ryuichi Yamamuro, a resident of Ayabe City in Kyoto Prefecture, sent a letter to the City of Hiroshima stating his wish to donate roses for the following reason: "I want Anne's determination to continue fighting for genuine peace to reach as many people as possible." Unfortunately, this could not be realized at the time.

However, in 1989, in response to the call for donations for Second Phase Atomic Bomb Dome Preservation Efforts, Kenji Yamamuro, a son of Ryuichi Yamamuro, sent a letter to the Hiroshima City A-bomb Dome Preservation Project Fund Secretariat stating his wish to donate roses, which was fulfilled with the help of a hibakusha in 1989.
