Reason for Donation

The Tokyo Federation of A-Bomb Sufferers Organizations (TOYUKAI: established November 16, 1958, by atomic bomb survivors residing in Tokyo) replanted eight Ginkgo biloba trees in Peace Memorial Park as a symbol of peace. The ginkgo tree is the official tree of both Tokyo Metropolis and Kanagawa Prefecture, and TOYUKAI acquired four trees from Tokai-ji Temple in Shinagawa, Tokyo which has a monument dedicated to the victims of the atomic bombings, and four trees from Tokei-ji Temple, a famous refuge, in Kamakura. Their act of kindness was featured in a newspaper article on September 24, 1971.
