Founded in 1980, the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War (IPPNW) is a global organization that works to prevent nuclear war in their capacity as physicians.

From October 7 to 10, 1989, the IPPNW 9th World Congress was held at the International Conference Center Hiroshima based on the slogan, “No More Hiroshimas: An Eternal Commitment.” Representatives planted this Cornus florida dogwood tree during their time in Hiroshima.
