Pinus thunbergii, Pinus densiflora
Association of People from Shimane Prefecture Residing in Hiroshima
July 2, 1963
This pair of pine trees was gifted by the Association of People from Shimane Prefecture Residing in Hiroshima to mark the 10th anniversary of the establishment of their association. The trees were originally planted to the northwest of the Peace Memorial Hall; however, they were moved to their current location due to park reconstruction works.
Both trees were grafted from parent trees in Shimane Prefecture; the black pine (Pinus thunbergii (Oki No. 102)) from its parent tree in Beppu, Nishi-no-shima Town, Oki-gun in April 1959, and the red pine (Pinus densiflora (Nogi No. 101)) from its parent tree in Higashi-mori, Hakuta Town, Nogi-gun in March 1957.
