Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, United Kingdom
October 11, 1972
At the end of March 1972, the City of Hiroshima received rose saplings from the Japanese Ambassador to the UK as per a request made in October 1971 by Staffordshire (UK) resident John Collard, a representative of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).
John Collard asked that they be planted on August 6, however, as summer months are not suited for planting roses, they were cultivated at a municipal nursery and planted during a ceremony attended by the British Consul-General in Osaka-Kobe on October 11, 1972.
