Hiroshima City Asa Zoological Park
Across its vast and verdant grounds, the Hiroshima City Asa Zoological Park is a comfortable home to approximately 160 species of animal, including African elephants, giraffes, zebras, cheetahs, black rhinos, Malayan tapirs, lesser pandas, tigers, and Japanese giant salamanders. The petting zoo Pīchiku Park is also a popular attraction.

- Closed: Every Thursday (Open if a national holiday or August 6 falls on a Thursday), 12/29-31
(Asa Zoo may open on Thursdays during peak travel seasons; please contact Asa Zoo directly to inquire.)

There is a restaurant and café in the park.
Pets
For the safety of our animals and yours, and that of our visitors, Asa Zoo does not allow pets, such as cats or dogs, on the grounds.
If circumstances are unavoidable, however, the zoo can keep your pet in a cage and look after them while you visit the zoo; please inquire at the ticket counter.
Assistance Dog Admission
While the admission of assistance dogs for the disabled (guide dogs, service dogs, and hearing dogs) is possible, there are animals at Asa Zoo that become extremely agitated at the sight of dogs. For safety reasons, please consult with us beforehand or when you arrive. A member of staff may follow you at a distance during your visit.
How to get to Asa Zoo
- Take the bus bound for Asahi-ga-Oka (あさひが丘行き//Asahi-ga-Oka-yuki) from bus stand no. 9, platform B at JR Hiroshima Station South Exit; takes approximately 50 minutes.
- Take the bus bound for Asahi-ga-Oka (あさひが丘行き//Asahi-ga-Oka-yuki) or Imuro (飯室行き//Imuro-yuki) from bus stand no. 4 at Astramline Kamiyasu Station; takes approximately 10 minutes.
- From the city center by car, follow the Astramline along National Route 54 for approximately 40 minutes.
- Approximately 20 minutes from Hiroshima-kita Interchange, Hiroshima Interchange, and Itsukaichi Interchange.
