Letter of Protest

Ignoring the international call for a halt to sub-critical nuclear weapons testing, a spokesperson for the Department of Energy has announced that on July 2 the United States will conduct such a test with plutonium in Nevada. I strongly protest this action, which will foment distrust in the international community of the nuclear powers, further endanger execution of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty (CTBT), and heighten the risk of nuclear proliferation.

Please understand that the realization of a world without nuclear weapons is the desire of the international community. It is incumbent on the United States as a nuclear power to immediately cease sub-critical nuclear weapons testing and earnestly pursue nuclear disarmament.
