In Vientiane City, the capitol of Laos, rapid increase in population has put strains on the environment and the city is currently facing household waste issues, particularly in regards to solid waste disposal. Mr. Akhavongsa’s prime area of focus was solid waste disposal in Hiroshima City (collection, transport to landfill, management), as well as learning about public health and sanitation, sewage projects, city planning, and more.
Visit to the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, participation in the Peace Memorial Ceremony, and participation in the Peace Bell Gathering (organized by Hiroshima UNESCO).
Three day, two night homestay; meeting with the Central Hiroshima branch of Soroptimist International.
Mr. Akhavongsa plans to use his training to aid in creating a comprehensive environmental management system policy.
