Below is information regarding Certificates of Municipal and Prefectural Residents Taxes Ledger (Certificates of Income) and Certificates of Tax Payment (for Individual Municipal and Prefectural Residents Tax). For further information regarding municipal tax certificates, click here (Japanese).

Applications can be made at offices (etc) that are not in your local ward.
Note that if an applicant requests two copies of the same certificate, an administration fee of 700 JPY (350 JPY x 2) will apply.
Public welfare recipients, households exempt from Municipal/Prefectural Residents Taxes, and other similar cases may be entitled to reductions to/exemption from paying administration fees. Please let us know when you apply. Please note that when applying using Convenience Store Certificate Issuance Services, there are no administration fee reductions/exeptions, nor will they be reimbursed. Those who would like to be issued certificates with reduced/exempted administration fees should go to their nearest municipal tax office, tax room, ward branch office (etc).
To protect personal information, applications must be made by applicants themselves or a member of their family with whom they live (some exceptions apply). Please note that when applying via Convenience Store Certificate Issuance Services, applications can only be made by applicants themselves.
When applicants themselves are applying at an office or via post, they will need to bring/include a form of ID. If applying via convenience store certificate issuance services, they will also need an Individual Number Card with an electronic certificate for user identification.
When a family member is applying on behalf of an applicant, they will also need a form of ID.
Municipal and Prefectural Residents Taxes are levied on your income of the previous year. Taxpayers can apply for Certificates of Municipal and Prefectural Residents Taxes Ledger for the new fiscal year from early June (following the day Tax Notifications are sent).

If you paid taxes at a financial institution or via bank transfer, it may take 1-2 weeks to confirm payment. If you apply for a Certificate of Tax Payment within 1-2 weeks after paying taxes, please be sure to bring/include a receipt.
If you paid taxes via credit card, it may take 2-3 weeks to confirm payment. As there is no receipts for payments via credit card, taxpayers that require a Certificate of Tax Payment as soon as possible should avoid paying via credit card, and instead pay at one of the places listed on the reverse of their payment slip. Please apply for a Certificate of Tax Payment at a municipal tax office, tax room (etc) with the receipt you are issued.
