Soundness Survey

Since the second preservation project, in order to better grasp the level of the Dome’s deterioration, a soundness survey has been carried out as a rule once every three years since fiscal year 1992.
 Since the first soundness survey, the following aspects have been inspected regularly:

1. Exterior survey – visual inspection of deterioration condition
2. Sinkage measurement – investigation of sinkage condition
3. Vertical measurement – investigation of wall angle
4. Permeability examination – investigation of wall permeability to water
   *Not conducted at the first survey.
