The Atomic Bomb Dome has remained in the condition it was left in after the bombing. There were no significant structural changes, but due to severe weathering by wind and rain, the possibility of collapse was feared, leading to a preservation project in fiscal year 1967 to preserve the Dome's postbombing condition. Three additional preservation projects have been conducted since.
Fundraising campaigns were conducted to raise the construction fees for both projects, gathering a large amount in donations. The remainder of the donation money was reserved in the Atomic Bomb Preservation Project Fund and used for the third and fourth preservation projects and preservation surveys.
Below is a summary of past construction work.
