Tax Delinquency
Failure to pay your municipal taxes on time will result in a late payment penalty on top of your outstanding amount (to maintain fairness between those who pay on time and those who do not).
Furthermore, you may be subject to disposition of delinquency (滞納処分//tainō shobun) as described below:
The City of Hiroshima will notify taxpayers if they have unpaid municipal taxes via demand notices (督促状//tokusokujō) or via telephone. If municipal taxes remain unpaid, the City will seize your assets, which includes your salary, savings, or real estate, to make up for your outstanding payment.
