Application for funeral allowance under National Health Insurance

When a person enrolled in National Health Insurance dies, application for funeral allowance can be made by the person arranging the funeral.

 

Please note that the allowance will not be paid if two years have passed from the day following the funeral.

It is necessary to file a death notification of a pension recipient or claim for unpaid pension benefits. Required documents and places of submission of the documents as well as the necessary procedures vary depending on the type of pension. (In the case of an employee pension, please contact the Japan Pension Service, and in the case of a mutual aid pension, please contact individual mutual aid associations.)

Transfer (succession) of the right to use a municipal cemetery (or Takamagahara Cemetery) due to succession

When a person who has the right to use a municipal cemetery (or Takamagahara Cemetery) dies, it is necessary to take procedures to transfer or inherit the right. Child allowance

Since eligibility for the allowance is automatically lost after a death notification, no procedures are necessary. To receive unpaid allowance, however, it is necessary to take procedures to claim for the allowance. If a spouse becomes a recipient of the allowance on behalf of the deceased, it is necessary to make a new application. Please make sure to contact the Health Services and Welfare Division.
