The City of Hiroshima established the Hiroshima International Cooperation Fund in 1995 as part of our policies for peace creation. Through this fund, we aim to contribute to world peace and global development by putting our city’s experience and know-how to good use, engaging in international cooperation activities at the municipal level to help find solutions to the urban problems faced by a number of regions across Asia. The generous donations we receive help finance the Hiroshima International Cooperation Project, through which we welcome trainees from municipalities across Asia to undertake training in a number of fields, such as environmental sanitation.
In FY2019, we welcomed Ms. Sirimas Sittichok (Chonburi Province, Kingdom of Thailand) as a trainee from July 5 - September 2 through the Local Government Officials Training Program managed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications and the Council of Local Authorities for International Relations (CLAIR).
Ms. Sittichok’s training focused mainly on environmental sanitation and waste management at the Environment Bureau, Waterworks Bureau, Sewerage Bureau, Health and Welfare Bureau, and Urban Development Bureau. One of the fundamental pillars of this training program is peace education, through which Ms. Sittichok deepened her understanding of the realities of the atomic bombing and the preciousness of peace. It is our hope that, after returning to Thailand, Ms. Sittichok will serve as a peace messenger.
