Letting your Dog Roam Off Their Lead is Prohibited
There has been a rise in the number of complaints regarding dog owners letting their pets off the lead to play in parks and other areas in the city.
Letting your dog roam freely and not having them on the lead is prohibited in accordance with Article 5 of the Hiroshima Prefecture Act on Animal Welfare and Management.
Dog owners must adhere to the following when exercising their dogs in parks, on the street, and other areas in the city:
- Do not let your dog(s) roam free; as a rule, dog owners must be strong enough to be able to control their pets while exercising them.
- Dog owners must inspect and maintain leads to ensure they can respond to their pet’s sudden movements.
- Owners of dangerous dogs should avoid places and times that become crowded.
- Owners of dangerous dogs should use a muzzle if necessary when exercising their dogs outside to avoid serious accidents in cases where they cannot control their pets.
Remember, some people do not like or are frightened of dogs; be considerate and keep a firm hold of your pet’s lead.
