Letter of Protest

Last month at the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review and Extension Conference the five nuclear powers discussed the signing of a Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT) by the end of 1996 and agreed to voluntarily refrain from testing until the treaty goes into effect. Despite these developments, your country has decided to resume nuclear testing. This action works against the effort all nuclear powers should be making to reduce nuclear armaments, and I am writing to strongly protest your decision.

International public opinion is turning heavily toward nuclear arms reduction and against the reliance on nuclear deterrence. I strongly urge that you take note of this trend and work actively for the abolition of nuclear weapons.
