His Excellency Xu Dunxin
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary
Embassy of People's Republic of China
Letter of Protest
Dear Mr. Ambassador:
As international opinion toward the realization of world peace and the abolition of nuclear weapons continues to grow in this 50th year after the conclusion of World War II and the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the nuclear weapons test your country has carried out is a truly reckless act and an affront to the international community, which desires a world free of nuclear weapons.
On behalf of the people of Hiroshima, the first city in the world to have suffered an atomic bombing, I gravely protest your country's actions in carrying cut this nuclear test, neglecting any sincere attempt at nuclear disarmament, the responsibility and duty of the nuclear powers. I hereby call strongly for an immediate and comprehensive halt to nuclear weapons testing.
Takashi Hiraoka
Mayor
The City of Hiroshima
