Letter of Protest

It has come to light that your country conducted a subcritical nuclear test at the Nevada test site on February 13, 2019.

Despite the formal letter of protest sent last October in emphatic protest against such experiments, the United States has once again conducted yet another subcritical experiment. This compels us to believe that the United States intends to cling to its nuclear stockpile indefinitely. Your country’s actions ignore the wish of the hibakusha and millions of others who seek the abolition of nuclear weapons and are utterly unacceptable. On behalf of the A-bombed city of Hiroshima, once again I vehemently protest and strongly demand that all future nuclear tests be cancelled.

I urge you to fully understand the actual damage wrought by a single bomb and our hibakusha’s experiences, share in the spirit of Hiroshima which calls for world peace, and strive for a world without nuclear weapons based on reason.
