Letter of Protest

It has come to light that your country conducted a subcritical nuclear test at the Nevada test site on December 13, 2017.

This experiment, though not involving nuclear explosions, compels us to believe that the U.S. intends to cling to its nuclear stockpile indefinitely. Your country's actions ignore the wish of the hibakusha and millions of others who seek the abolition of nuclear weapons and are utterly unacceptable. On behalf of the A-bombed city of Hiroshima, I vehemently protest and strongly demand that all future nuclear tests be cancelled.

I urge you to fully understand the actual damage wrought by a single bomb and our hibakusha's experiences, share in the spirit of Hiroshima which calls for world peace, and strive for a world without nuclear weapons based on reason.

MATSUI Kazumi
Mayor
The City of Hiroshima
