Transformation and Honoring of the Paper Cranes Logo Contest Results
From October to November 2012, the City of Hiroshima conducted a contest recruiting a logo to use in paper crane transformation projects, receiving 438 submissions from within Japan and overseas.
After a round of strict judging, we selected the following work for the first prize, and employed it as the design for the logo.
The logo will be actively used on products made through transformation projects implemented by our city and citizens, and in promotional media, transmitting worldwide as a brand originating in Hiroshima. We believe use of the logo will give an additional symbolic value to each such project.
Rules regarding the use of the logo (design manual, etc.) will be released at a later date.

Description of the Work
In this work a single colorful paper crane is used to symbolize the many paper cranes offered at the Children’s Peace Monument, and the thoughts, prayers, dreams, and wishes of many people entrusted to these cranes. This logo expresses an image of both the material form of the paper cranes and the many various thoughts behind them finely dispersing and spreading outwards - the image of transformation.
Furthermore, the word HIROSHIMA adds the intention to share and transmit wishes for nuclear abolition and lasting world peace as a global consciousness.
