Former Outpatient Wing of Hiroshima Teishin Hospital Peace Museum

The Outpatient Wing of Hiroshima Teishin Hospital was built in 1935 for the staff and families of the Hiroshima Communications Bureau. It was exposed to the 1945 atomic bombing, and in the immediate aftermath, was innundated with countless victims and the staff dedicated themselves to providing medical treatment. As one of the few surviving medical institutions in the city, it played a significant role in both medical treatment and investigations into the effects of the bombing.
In 1995, Japan Post (then the Chugoku Regional Postal Services Bureau) renovated a section of the former Outpatient Wing to open as an atomic bomb archives room. After the building was donated to the City of Hiroshima in July 2018, it was made accessible to visitors on a reservation basis. In May 2026, the City completely renovated the structure, officially reopening it as the Former Outpatient Wing of Hiroshima Teishin Hospital Peace Museum, an annex of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum.
The museum's video theater features photographs, videos, and testimonies from hospital staff. It also showcases a three-dimensional digital recreation based on the building's original blueprints, allowing visitors to experience what the hospital was like in the aftermath of the bombing.
In addition, the Former Aseptic Operating Room/Former Disinfection Room has been restored to its original appearance. This room features explanatory panels about its atomic-bombed tiles alongside photographs of patients receiving medical treatment in the aftermath of the bombing.
