Volgograd Day 2019

Volgograd Day 2019 participants were introduced to Volgograd and Russia through an exhibition that included traditional Russian folk crafts, photographs of Volgograd cityscapes, as well as an introduction to youth exchange programs held by the City of Hiroshima and the City of Volgograd.

The event also featured an introduction to Russian food culture, where we handed out pelmeni, Russia’s answer to gyoza dumplings, and Russian black bread, which participants savored while enjoying a performance by pianist Tanaka Kazuki.

During the commemorative ceremony held in the hall, speeches by the chair of the executive committee and Deputy Mayor of Hiroshima were followed by a message from the mayor of Volgograd that was read in Russian by Hiroshima Messenger and the event’s MC Andrei Krot. Consul-general of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Osaka, who attended the event as a guest, addressed the audience.

After the commemorative ceremony, the Hiroshima Messengers introduced Volgograd and, under the theme of Multiethnic State, Russia through pictures and videos.

During a concert of Russian music, two students from the Elizabeth University of Music performed Russian music on the flute and piano for the second year running and the Hiroshima Choral Group performed a variety of Russian songs.

Additionally, the atmosphere in the venue was lively and enthusiastic during an exciting raffle of Russian goods and products.

With great weather on the day, the event gathered 160 participants and we were able to strengthen our sister city relationship with the city of Volgograd.
