Daegu Day 2019 celebrations were held during the Hiroshima Flower Festival (May 3-5). At the commemorative ceremony on May 3, speeches were given by the Daegu Day Executive Committee Chair and other members. A celebratory message by the Mayor of Daegu was also presented, followed by a wind instrument ensemble performance by students from the Elisabeth University of Music (two exchange students from Korea and five Japanese students) and a joint performance by the same ensemble and the orchestra at Sanyo Jogakuen.
Over the three days of the festival, the Daegu/Korea Plaza was a huge hit with families and young women, offering visitors the chance to try on a hanbok (chima jeogori) and experience Korean culture.
On May 5, we held a Korean food event where three chefs from Daegu prepared two different dishes for visitors to enjoy. This event is always the highlight of our Daegu Day celebrations, and this year featured more mild Korean food, as opposed to the spicy Korean food that is well known here in Japan, much to the delight of the visitors.
The event was a huge success with nearly 4,000 visitors over the course of three days.
