About Peace Tourism

Peace Tourism is the name of a new genre of tourism created by the City of Hiroshima in the spirit of sharing peace with visitors from across the globe. Traces of the atomic bombing and symbols of recovery and reconstruction can be found all across our city, from the Atomic Bomb Dome to the Peace Memorial Park, and beyond, each with its own unique story and legacy. Peace Tourism is designed to give visitors and citizens alike the opportunity to think the meaning of peace, and what they can do to create a more peaceful world by visiting these sites and learning their stories.

Peace Tourism Tour Routes

Peace Tourism offers the following four tour routes:

  1. Exploring Hibaku Buildings and the Legacy of Hiroshima (Self-Guided Walking/Bicycle Tour)

Hibaku buildings are buildings which survived the atomic bombing. This tour will take you around several of the most well-known hibaku buildings in Hiroshima City which give a clear picture of what happened on August 6, 1945.

  2. History Through the Arts: A Comprehensive View of Hiroshima Through Culture (Self-Guided Bus Tour)

On this self-guided tour, using Hiroshima City’s Maple Loop (Meipuru~pu) sightseeing bus, you’ll visit three different art museums and libraries, all home to works which appeal for peace, and experience the fine arts and culture of Hiroshima which are firmly rooted in peace.

  3. From the Ashes: A Look at Modern Hiroshima (Self-Guided Walking/Bicycle Tour)

This tour showcases the best of Hiroshima’s thriving modern culture; a symbol of the resilience of her citizens who, together, rebuilt their city from the catastrophic damages of the atomic bombing.

  4. Lessons from the Past: An In-Depth Look at Peace Museums in Hiroshima
