Product name Hiroshima Carp Streamers
Product description
Traditional hand-painted carp streamers: carrying over 400 years of history to the present
Long ago, Japanese washi papermaking flourished along the Ozegawa River that flows along the border of Hiroshima Prefecture and Yamaguchi Prefecture, and our Hiroshima Koinobori, handcrafted carp streamers that carry on the tradition of Ōtake Koinobori, officially designated as a Traditional Craft of Hiroshima Prefecture in June 2025.
Each one of our streamers is made entirely by hand using Ōtake Tesuki Washi, a locally produced washi paper also recognized as a traditional craft by the Prefecture of Hiroshima.
The warmth of washi paper, combined with the charming painting of Japanese folktale hero Kintarō and bright and lively colors put our hand-painted streamers in a league of their own as one of the last remaining handmade streamers in all of Japan. Enjoy all of the culture and artistry that goes into each of our streamers.
