Product name Hiroshima Urushi Lacquerware
Product description
Combining the elegance and beauty of lacquerware with the functionality of everyday living
A fourth generation artisan, Naoya Takayama is a master of Hiroshima Buddhist Altar lacquer craft, carefully passed down from one generation to the next, as well as roiro-migaki, a wax polishing technique which he learned from his time spent in Kyoto. Using these techniques, he creates products which not only reflect the beauty of traditional craft works, but also modern values and usage. His lacquerware is characterized by their supple texture and rounded edges, as well as the use of vibrant colors. Natural lacquer can withstand acidic ingredients and alcohol, and is a natural anti-corrosion agent and bug repellent. It also acts as a natural disinfectant, making this lacquerware safe for children and a smart choice for adults in everyday use.
