As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise across the country, Hiroshima City has confirmed 13 new cases of COVID-19 since the beginning of July with a number of patients having come from visits to Tokyo, where cases are sharply rising.

Of these new cases, one confirmed on July 10 (Fri) was a municipal employee who attended an event in Tokyo. As such, effective as of July 11 (Sat), we have informed our municipal employees that they are to take the strictest care of their health together with keeping steadfast in carrying out basic infection countermeasures. I have also directed all municipal employees to remember that they deal with many of our citizens directly, and as such, they should remain keenly aware that they must be even more cautious than our citizens in the fight against COVID-19.

I would also like to ask our citizens to remain vigilant in carrying out the New Way of Life: practice social distancing, wear masks, frequently wash your hands, and avoid the 3Cs in your everyday life. In addition, I also ask the following:

  • In regards to travel to other prefectures: together with keeping aware of the COVID-19 situation in other areas, avoid travel to areas where infections are on the rise as much as possible. If you have a reason that you absolutely must travel to these areas, avoid visiting facilities where, even if you avoid the 3Cs, you run a high risk of infection, and where you cannot be completely in control of your own health.
  • Those who must travel to other areas, I urge you to keep a record of where you have been and do everything you can to protect your health. Should you experience symptoms such as fever, cough, fatigue, or loss of sense of taste or smell, contact our call center immediately.
