The club members are about 30 students but many people on campus participated in this project through our campus wide activities such as International Day, Campus Awareness Day, Global Awareness Day and several presentations on Hiroshima. It took about 9 months from fall, 2007 until June, 2008 to complete. Our Hiroshima Presentations included presentation by Mayumi N. Smith, Instructor, Everett Community College and 3 additional presentations by Club members to campus wide audiences. These presentations included showing the film, "Hiroshima: A Mother's Prayer, A-Bomb Documentary Film." Everett Community College, Nippon Business Institute and Nippon Friendship Club will continue to promote the world peace by origami crane projects. |

In our study of World War 2 in the Pacific , we learned about the multiple causes of the war , battles , and end results . We also learned about the decision to drop nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki and the catastrophic , horrifying results . We read stories of some of the survivors and they brought tears to our eyes. Sadako's story touched our hearts. The short and long term effects of the war were dreadful for both of our countries. We support the city of Hiroshima's efforts to ensure the world never forgets. We are very concerned about the proliferation of nuclear weapons in the world. | 2008年09月30日 | 香川県高松市立鶴尾小学校児童一同 | 香川県 | 私たちは香川県高松市立鶴尾小学校の6年生です。私たちは平和学習のためにこの地を訪れました。今日のために全校生に協力を呼びかけ千羽鶴を折ってきました。国語で学習した「ヒロシマのうた」から広島に原子爆弾が投下された時、たくさんの人々の尊い命が犠牲になったことを知りました。また、家族を亡くしたり、病にかかり苦しみを背負った人々がいることも知りました。この鶴は亡くなった方々のご冥福を祈り二度とこのような悲惨な戦争が起こらないようにと、平和への願いを込めて一つ一つ大切に折ったものです。ここにおささげします。 |
