Comment from the Mayor Regarding President Putin's Statements about the Use of Nuclear Weapons

President Putin made statements about the use of nuclear weapons prior to the armed attacks in Ukraine staged by Russia. I am outraged by these statements, callously trampling not only on our hibakusha’s wish for peace, embodied by their words, “no one else should suffer as we have,” but also on our conviction that nuclear weapons are the ultimate in inhumane weapons and should never be used again under any circumstances whatsoever.

I strongly urge that Russia and other nations make diplomatic efforts for a peaceful solution at the earliest possible date.
