Heavy Rains Beginning 08/11/2021: Assistance for Affected People

There are a number of systems to help people affected by the heavy rains that began on August 11. The main services available are detailed below.

1) Disaster Victim Certificates

A Disaster Victim Certificate (risai shōmeisho) is a document that proves that a building or similar has been destroyed or damaged in a disaster. You can receive one for free (Japanese).

2) Relief money

If your house has been damaged or destroyed, you can receive disaster relief money (omimaikin).

3) Loans

If, due to the disaster, you have suffered an injury or your house has been damaged or destroyed, there are systems for borrowing money. Please consult with the City for details.

4) Financial difficulties

If you are facing financial difficulties due to the disaster, please consult with the City for assistance.

5) Housing

1) Municipal and prefectural housing is available temporarily to people affected by the disaster. Neccesary items (e.g. futons) will also be provided.

2) Neccesary items (e.g. futons) can also be provided to people with damaged or destroyed houses who are not temporarily living in public housing.

3) If you need assistance with repairs on your house or another building, please consult with the City.

7) Cleaning your home

You can get information and advice about cleaning your home (Japanese), including how to sanitize it.

8) School

You can consult with the City about reduced tuition fees. Textbooks, teaching materials, and school supplies can be provided.

9) Nursery school

You can consult with the City about reduced nursery school fees.

10) Taxes

You can consult with the City about partial tax exemption or delayed payments.

11) Healthcare, insurance, etc.

You can consult with the City about reduced insurance premiums and co-payments for: late-stage elderly medical care, long-term care insurance, National Health Insurance, National Pension, disabled citizens' welfare, and child welfare.

12) Water and sewage bills

You can consult with the City about reduced water and sewage bills.

13) Other

1) The City can provide documents neccesary for applying for assistance (resident record, ID, Personal Seal Registration) for free. However, this does not apply if you carry out procedures at a convenience store.

2) If your house has been damaged or destroyed, you do not need to pay your NHK fee for August or September. For more information, call 0570-077-077.

3) People affected by the disaster may use public bathing facilities for free (Japanese).
