COVID-19 Vaccination Sites and How to Make an Appointment (as of 9/10/2021)

Index

COVID-19 vaccinations will be conducted in two ways: individual vaccinations administered by medical institutions and group vaccinations administered at vaccination sites run by the City of Hiroshima.

You MUST make an appointment in advance to receive your vaccination.

Appointment Flowchart PDF

You will need your vaccination coupon when making your appointment. Coupons will be sent to the address on your Resident Record when your vaccination period approaches. For information on when your coupon will be sent, please see the Vaccination Schedule page. If you lose your vaccination coupon, you can apply for it to be reissued via the national government’s vaccination website COVID-19 Vaccine Navi<外部リンク> (Japanese).

What to bring to the vaccination site

*Your vaccination coupon and questionnaire will be sent to the address on your Resident Record when your vaccination period approaches. Caretakers may accompany those who require assistance at group vaccination sites; assistance dogs (hearing dogs, service dogs, guide dogs, etc) may also accompany those who need them.

Individual Vaccinations

Individual vaccinations will be conducted at medical institutions such as hospitals and clinics.

Medical Institutions Offering Individual Vaccinations

Below you will find information for medical institutions in each ward offering vaccinations.

  • Note 1: there may be other medical institutions offering individual vaccinations which are not on the list. You also may not be able to make an appointment depending on the situation at the medical institutions listed below. For more information, please contact the medical institution at which you would like to be vaccinated directly.
  • Note 2: Adults may make appointments for their vaccination at pediatric clinics.

(Information is current as of 8/12; lists will be updated as necessary.)

You can find the latest information for medical institutions offering vaccines and their appointment schedules on the national government’s vaccination website COVID-19 Vaccine Navi<外部リンク> (Japanese).

Making an Appointment

Please contact the medical institution providing the vaccine directly to make your appointment.

Note: if making an appointment via telephone, please only call during the appointment hours listed for each medical institution (check the lists above for appointment hours for each medical institution).

Vaccinations for Children (12-15 year olds)

Individual Vaccinations at Medical Institutions

From the standpoints of (1) securing proper explanations to parents/guardians, (2) vaccination peer pressure, (3) attentive handling of any changes to health post-vaccination, the national government does not recommend vaccinations at group sites for children.

The Japan Pediatric Society has also stated that individual vaccinations at medical institutions are preferred as they are predicated on the full understanding of the merits and demerits of vaccinating healthy children on the part of the parent/guardian, as well as the ability to provide attentive care to the child before, during, and after vaccination.

As such, the City of Hiroshima also recommends that children who will be vaccinated receive their vaccine at their regular doctor (please consult with them for more information).

Please note that vaccination is not mandatory; only those who want to be vaccinated will receive their vaccine. There are also those who cannot be vaccinated due to health conditions. Do NOT discriminate or bully others based on whether or not they are vaccinated.

Parent/Guardian Accompaniment During Vaccination

As a rule, parents/guardians MUST accompany children younger than 16 during their vaccination.

However, for children in junior high school or above, it is possible to receive your vaccine without parental/guardian accompaniment if your pre-vaccination questionnaire is signed by your parent/guardian in the appropriate box (to be confirmed at reception).

In addition, on the day of vaccination, it is necessary to inform the medical institution of the contact information for the child’s parent/guardian so that the doctor can contact them to confirm what is written on the pre-vaccination questionnaire of the child to be vaccinated.

Vaccinations for Expecting Mothers and Their Spouses

When pregnant women contract COVID-19, those in the latter stages of their pregnancy are especially at risk for developing a severe case and run a high risk of early labor. As such, in cooperation with city medical associations and obstetrician and gynecological associations, the City of Hiroshima is working to promote the prompt vaccination of expecting mothers and their spouses.

How to Make an Appointment

Please consult with your regular doctor about whether vaccination is possible.

  • If your regular doctor is conducting vaccinations: as a general rule, you and your spouse will receive your vaccinations there.
  • If your regular doctor is NOT conducting vaccinations: you can find a list of medical institutions who are cooperating in vaccinating expecting mothers and their spouses in Hiroshima City and neighboring towns here (Japanese).
Note

Please be sure to bring your Maternal and Child Health Handbook with you on the day of vaccination.

Group Vaccinations

Group vaccination sites will be set up by the City of Hiroshima at commercial venues.

Notice to those receiving their vaccination at group vaccination sites

When visiting vaccination sites

  • In an effort to avoid the 3Cs, please be at your vaccination site five minutes before your appointment. Note that you will be called at the precise time of your appointment.
  • Those who arrive early for their vaccination will be asked to wait outside of the vaccination site.

*To ensure that no vaccines go to waste, your appointment may be canceled if 30 minutes pass from the time of your appointment and you do not show up. We ask for your understanding in this matter.

Heatstroke prevention measures

  • To help prevent heatstroke when visiting vaccination sites, please ensure your own health and safety by keeping hydrated.
