Intensive Spring PCR Testing (Ended 5/16)

With Golden Week coming up, lots of people will be traveling, causing more person-to-person contact and a higher risk of COVID-19 infection. That’s why we’ve extended our free PCR testing; be sure to get your PCR test and help us stop the spread of COVID-19!

Testing Period

April 23 (Fri)-May 16 (Sun), 2021

Note: testing kits will be handed out until May 15, 2021.

Eligibility

The following people are eligible for free PCR testing:

  • Those who live or work in Hiroshima City

Note: We ask that those who have traveled outside of the prefecture, those who work at dining establishments, and those who have been to dining establishments to be especially proactive about getting tested.

Note 2: if you have any symptoms, such as fever, please contact the Hiroshima City COVID-19 Call Center (082-241-4566; Japanese).

Note 3: those who do not meet the criteria above are also eligible for PCR testing. Those who live/work in Hiroshima City can receive a free testing kit from their local pharmacy (until May 31, 2021); those who live/work in Hiroshima Prefecture can visit one of the five Hiroshima Prefecture PCR Centers.

How to Receive a Testing Kit

Appointments not necessary; saliva tests only available.

You can receive a test via any of the following methods:

Temporary PCR Testing Sites in Hiroshima City (for Individual Testing)

  1. Receive your test kit at one of the Temporary PCR Testing Sites in Hiroshima City<外部リンク> (Japanese; maps in English below).
  2. Complete your saliva sample at home and submit it to one of the  Temporary PCR Testing Sites in Hiroshima City<外部リンク>.

Note: Testing kits will be provided until April 24 (Sat), 2021.

Temporary PCR Testing Sites in Hiroshima City (for Group Testing)

  1. Discuss at work or at your organization how many people will be tested and on what day.
  2. Receive the appropriate number of testing kits from one of the Temporary PCR Testing Sites in Hiroshima City<外部リンク> and distribute them to those who will be tested.
  3. Have each person to be tested complete their saliva sample and submit all kits at once to the same testing site where you received them.

Note: Testing kits will be provided until April 24 (Sat), 2021.

Important Notes on Testing Kits

  • Do NOT eat/drink, gargle, brush your teeth, or smoke 30 minutes before you take your saliva sample.
  • As a rule, we will ONLY call those who test positive. In the event that you test positive, we will contact you after 6 pm following the day of your test.
  • Those who test positive will be quarantined in a hotel for approximately 8 nights.
  • Negative results are current as of the time of testing. We ask that you continue to take infection prevention measures, and if you develop cold-like symptoms, contact the Hiroshima City COVID-19 Call Center (082-241-4566; Japanese) or your regular doctor.
