Elementary Schools, Middle Schools, and Special Needs Schools

For information about entering municipal elementary and junior high, schools, contact your ward office or the School Affairs Division of the Board of Education (Tel: 082-504-2469).
For information about entering special needs schools, contact the Special Needs Education Division of the Board of Education (Tel: 082-504-2197) Students can enter municipal elementary, junior high and special needs school regardless of their level of ability in Japanese. However, the schools they can enter are determined by their place of residence.
Classes in municipal elementary, junior high and special needs schools are conducted in Japanese. There are no tuition fees, but a portion of lunch and educational material costs are required.
The city provides school expense subsidies to assist with the costs required for schooling for households that experience financial difficulty in sending their children to school. For more information about school expense subsidies, contact your school or the School Affairs Division of the Board of Education.
