Hiroshima City Consultation Hotline for COVID-19 (as of 5/4/2020)

The City of Hiroshima has established a COVID-19 consultation hotline to help answer any questions or concerns you may have. This hotline also serves to connect those who may be calling with symptoms to their local health center so that they can be seen at a medical facility equipped to handle COVID-19 patients.

If you are confident in your Japanese abilities, please call the hotline directly.

For those who are not confident in their Japanese abilities and would like an interpreter, please inquire at the consultation desks listed below:

Hiroshima City Consultation Service for International Residents

  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm (excluding national holidays and 8/6)

Hiroshima Multilingual Living Support for Foreigners

  • Tel: 0120-783-806 (toll-free)
  • Hours: Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm (excluding national holidays*), Saturdays from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm (note: lines will be closed from 12:00-1:00 pm)
  • Lines will be open May 4 (Mon) to May 6 (Wed) from 10 am to 7 pm
  • Languages: English, Chinese, Spanish, Portuguese, Vietnamese, Korean, Tagalog, Indonesian, Thai, Nepalese

If you fulfil any of the following criteria, please DO NOT seek medical attention at local medical facilities; instead, call the consultation hotline and follow their instructions:

  • Those who have a fever or respiratory symptoms (including mild ones) AND have had close contact* with confirmed COVID-19 patients
  • Those who have (a) a fever of 37.5°C or above and respiratory symptoms, and (b) been to/lived in areas in which COVID-19 outbreaks have occurred as listed by the WHO within 14 days before symptoms appeared
  • Those who have (a) a fever of 37.5°C or above and respiratory symptoms, and (b) been in close contact* with those who have been to/lived in areas in which COVID-19 outbreaks have occurred as listed by the WHO within 14 days before symptoms appeared

*Close contact refers to those who live with or have been in contact with for prolonged periods of time with suspected/confirmed COVID-19 patients (including spending time in cars, trains, planes, etc).

If you are unsure whether you should call the hotline

If you fulfil any of the criteria below, we suggest that you call the consultation hotline:

  • If you have cold-like symptoms and a fever of 37.5°C or above for four days or more (the same goes for those continuously taking fever reducing medication)
  • Those with severe fatigue or having difficulty breathing

*Those listed below are at risk for serious complications from COVID-19; if any of the symptoms above persist for two days, call the hotline immediately:

  • Those who are 65 years or older
  • Those with pre-existing conditions such as diabetes, cardiac insufficiencies, respiratory illnesses (COPD, etc), or those on dialysis
  • Those taking immunosuppressants or anticancer drugs
  • Expecting mothers

To those with children: at this time, there have been no reports that children are susceptible to serious complications. We ask that you only call the hotline if your child meets the criteria listed above.

To medical institutions: for information about preventing in-hospital infections or disinfection, please contact the Medical Affairs Section (in the Medical Services Policy Division of the Health Department) at 082-241-1585.

For information about disinfection for other facilities, please contact the Public Hygiene Section (in the Public Hygiene Division of the Health Department) at 082-241-7408.

Ministry of Labor, Health, and Welfare (MLHW) Consultation Hotline

The MHLW has established a telephone consultation hotline for COVID-19.

  • Tel: 0120-565653 (toll-free)
  • Hours: 9 am to 9 pm (including weekends and national holidays)

The MHLW also offers fax service for those with hearing disabilities or those who cannot call in (03-3595-2756).
