Those who have a Basic Resident Registration Card can go through the procedures for moving in merely by visiting the municipal office of their new address, taking their Basic Resident Registration Card with them, if they submit a Moving-out Notification by mail to the municipal office of their former address in advance.
Since July 9, 2012, it has been possible to use your Basic Resident Registration Card in the municipality of your new address. Please take the necessary procedures at the municipal office of your new address when you file a Moving-in Notification.
When you have a Basic Resident Registration Card
(Reference) Ordinary procedures
Those who have their Basic Resident Registration Card
(If any member of a household who moves out has his/her Basic Resident Registration Card, he/she can file a Moving-out Notification on behalf of the other members.)
After the Moving-out Notification reaches the municipal office of your former address (it usually takes a few days), file a Moving-in Notification at the municipal office of your new address, presenting your Basic Resident Registration Card, within 14 days of moving in. (Your personal information number for the card is required.)
(Note) You cannot file a Moving-in Notification directly through the website of the municipal office.
